The OS X In Your Pocket
As soon as Apple fans received word that
the iPhone was going to run with the Mac OS X, the hype became even more intensified. For those who do not already know, the Mac OS X is the
same operating system found in all of the latest models of Apple computers. However, some disappointment aroused as soon as the fans realized
that the iPhone does not contain the entire functionality of the operating system. Surely, the expectation that this small gadget was going to
feature the entirety of the Mac OS X seems a little bit absurd. The full operating system is surely too big to fit the iPhone’s 4GB or 8GB
internal memory. What it has is a 500 MB version of the OS X that was specifically developed for the iPhone.

This compressed feature may leave one very
skeptical of the iPhone OS. Truly, you will not get the core features of the Mac OS X user interface which includes the Finder, the Dock, the
Desktop, and the Mouse Pointer, the iPhone is still a breeze to use. In place of the desktop, the iPhone features a Grid Application Launch
and a mini-version of the Dock. This mini-version will contain all necessary shortcuts to most commonly used applications such as the web
browser, or the phone, etc. All the features are easily navigated through its multi-touch display.
Apart from these, iPhone OS X still provides so much more than
any other smart phone despite its compression. While other smart phones provide limited web access, the iPhone allows unrestricted web access
through its Safari web browser. Through this, the iPhone lets its user view web pages in their entire landscape form and then zoom in and out by
tapping on the display.
Furthermore, the iPhone also features a rich HTML email client
that manages the user’s emails from POP3 or IMAP services and display images along with the text. The iPhone OS X also extends its features to
navigational devices which contains built-in Maps application and also supports Google Maps. Through
this, maps and satellite images can easily be viewed and its user can also get information on direction and traffic flow.
In addition, like any other Mac running an OS X, the iPhone
supports the use of Widgets or those small customizable applications that lets its users easily access information such as weather or stock
reports. The iPhone OS X has even provided extra features such as a YouTube player that can easily be launched from its Grid Application
Launcher. This way, YouTube videos can be access using the iPhone wherever and whenever.
In other words, the iPhone’s version of OS X includes all Mac OS X features that are applicable to mobile phones c
oupled with iPhone-specific features.
